Building Climate Resiliency in WASH in HCF (COP Event)

Climate change threatens the ability of healthcare facilities to provide routine services without disruption, particularly as it relates to the availability and quality of WASH services. As such, building resiliency into WASH in HCF programming is an important consideration from the onset. This Community of Practice event shared existing tools and resources to support climate resiliency, looked at examples of WASH in HCF programs that have made strides in integrating climate, and discussed what more healthcare facilities and implementers need to make sure climate resiliency is not overlooked.

This brief presents policy recommendations for improving water and hand-washing services in rural health care facilities through a professional service delivery model. Annualised costs to provide safe and reliable water and soap services are estimated from actual cost data, providing a basis for county-level budgets and investment planning.

Guidelines for Climate-Resilient and Environmentally Sustainable Health Care Facilities in Fiji

The ‘GUIDELINES FOR CLIMATE-RESILIENT AND ENVIRONMENTALLY SUSTAINABLE HEALTH CARE FACILITIES IN FIJI’ (CRESHCF Guidelines) was developed to assist Fiji’s Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MoHMS) and all health sector stakeholders to include sustainable, environment-friendly and climate-resilient healthcare facilities (HCFs) into the full life cycle of health care capital works.
